Kota, Briony, Sapna, and Nigel are at Darling Harbour, a popular entertainment area in Sydney.

 

Kota: There are so many shops and restaurants here!

Sapna: Yeah, I love Darling Harbour! We can do lots of fun things here.

Nigel: And it’s just on the waterfront.

Briony: The view across the harbor is great.

Kota: What is that sound?

Nigel: Lucky timing! Take a look at that bridge.

Kota: Whoa! It’s moving!

Nigel: Yeah. It’s a swinging bridge. It swings about 90 degrees. Then tall boats can pass through.

Kota: Awesome!

Briony: When it moves back, we can walk across it.

Sapna: Let’s get some food first. I’m starving!

Nigel: Why don’t we get fish and chips for takeout? We can have a picnic in the park.

Kota: Great idea!

 

People can do lots of fun things at Darling Harbour. Kota and his friends can have a picnic in the park.

 

 

One day, after New Year’s Day, Kota and his friends are enjoying their lunch in a park at Darling Harbour.

 

Kota: Mmm, fish and chips is the best!

Briony: You’re just like an Aussie!

Nigel: Fish and chips is originally from the U.K. But it’s one Kota of the most popular foods in Australia, too.

Kota: I understand why. Fried fish and fried potatoes are a perfect match! The batter on the fish is nice and crisp. What kind of fish is used for fish and chips?

Nigel: You can use any kind of soft white fish.

Sapna: And it tastes great with just salt and vinegar.

Briony: I don’t like to use vinegar.

Sapna: Really?? It goes so well with the chips!

 

Fish and chips is one of the most popular foods in Australia. The batter on the fish is nice and crisp.

 

 

In the park at Darling Harbour, Kota and his friends continue talking.

 

Sapna: Have you made a New Year’s resolution?

Kota: Resolution?

Nigel: A New Year’s resolution is a promise to yourself.

Briony: You make a decision and try not to give up.

Kota: Oh, I know that.

Nigel: My resolution is to get a bigger part in the musical this year.

Sapna: That’s great! How about you, Kota?

Kota: When I went to Bondi Beach for the first time, I was inspired. There was a girl surfing in the water. That was you, Briony.

Briony: Me?

Kota: My resolution is to be a cool surfer like you. So, I’m going to take part in the surfing competition!

 

Kota’s resolution is to be a cool surfer like Briony. He’s going to take part in the surfing competition.

 

 

At the end of the day, Kota and his friends are going to one of Briony’s favorite places.

 

Briony: The aquarium is one of my favorite places to visit! Come this way, guys.

Kota: This glass tunnel is neat! We can see so many sea creatures all around us!

Sapna: Look, there’s a dugong!

Briony: I love looking at all these animals. But swimming with them is even better. I can’t wait for my trip to the Great Barrier Reef next weekend. It will be amazing! The ocean water filled with coral is the Top perfect place for snorkeling.

Kota: It sounds fantastic.

Briony: Oh, Kota! My parents said you and Angie could come Kota with us. Would you like to?

Kota: I’d love to!

 

The aquarium is one of Briony’s favorite places to visit. Kota and his friends can see so many sea creatures all around them in the glass tunnel.

 

Stuart: The woman shopping at the store is Michelle.

Anya: The man cooking in the kitchen is Max.

The boy surfing in the water is Kota.

The girl reading a book in the library is Briony.

The boy playing chess over there is Nigel.
