中学生の基礎英語　レベル２ Lesson 220 Wrap-up Friday

It’s summer one year later. Kota is now in his first year of high school.
He is in his family’s kitchen in Iwate. His mother and father come in.

 

Kota: Good morning!

Mitsuko: You’re up early.

Kota: I want to catch the best waves! I got up extra early to make breakfast. There are enough onigiris for everyone. If you’re hungry, please help yourselves!
Kenji: Well, that’s helpful, Kota!

Kota: OK, I have to go. See you later!

Mitsuko: He’s so grown-up, isn’t he?

Kenji: Yes. Ever since he came back from Australia, he’s Surfb changed.

Mitsuko: And it’s wonderful to see his devotion to surfing.

Kenji: He even won the local competition. I never imagined he would do so well!

Mitsuko: I’m so proud of our little boy!

 

Mitsuko thinks it’s wonderful to see Kota’s devotion to surfing. Kenji never imagined Kota would do so well.

 

 

That evening, Kota is video chatting with Sapna and Nigel.

 

Nigel: Our winter break is starting soon.

Sapna: Nigel and I are going on a snowboarding trip together!

Kota: Wow, really?

Nigel: Yeah. You showed me that it’s important to challenge yourself.

Kota: That’s true! How’s Briony? I haven’t heard from her in a while.

Sapna: Oh, you haven’t?

Kota: No. I sent her some texts recently. But I haven’t received a reply yet.

Sapna: Oh, I think she’s really busy these days. Right, Nigel?

Nigel: Yeah, that’s right. She’s occupied with family things!

Kota: Well, I’m glad you two are doing well.

Sapna: We’re so happy to chat with you, Kota!

 

Kota hasn’t heard from Briony in a while. Sapna says she thinks Briony is really busy these days.

 

 

The next Saturday, Kota is leading a beach clean-up at his local beach.

 

Kota: OK, does everyone have a bag and a pair of tongs? Great. Let’s try to pick up twice as much trash as last week.

Volunteer 1: Wow! Who’s that girl surfing over there?

Volunteer 2: She’s really good!

Volunteer 3: Did she just do a 360 spin?

Volunteers: Amazing!

Kota: Wait a minute. That cool girl looks familiar. It can’t be…. It is! It’s her! Briony! Briony! Is that you??

Kota: I can’t believe you’re here!

Briony: Your family and my family helped me organize this surprise trip to Japan.

Kota: And Nigel and Sapna?

Briony: They were in on it, too, of course.

Kota: You guys are so sneaky!

 

Kota can’t believe Briony is in Iwate. His family and her family helped her organize the surprise trip to Japan.

 

 

After the big surprise, Kota is talking to Briony on the beach.

 

Briony: You’re doing beach clean-up in Japan now. That’s cool!

Kota: Yeah. I set up the volunteer group. If we clean this beach in Iwate, then we keep your beach in Sydney clean, too, Briony. Japan and Australia are linked by the ocean.

Briony: That’s a beautiful thought. So, have you learned any new surfing tricks?

Kota: Of course! I’ve been trying to do a 360 spin. I think I almost have it. I’d like to demonstrate it for you.

Briony: Oh, look! Some really good waves are coming! I’m going in!

Kota: Oh! Wait for me!

 

Kota set up the volunteer group. He said to Briony, “If we clean this beach in Iwate, then we keep your beach in Sydney clean, too.”

 

I haven’t finished reading five books yet.

I want to read twice as much next year.

I haven’t cleaned my room yet.

I want to clean it before the new school year.
