Andrew, the lifeguard, carries Briony out of the water.

 

Kota: Are you all right?

Briony: Yes, I’m OK. Ouch!

Andrew: Where does it hurt?

Briony: My left arm.

Andrew: Can you move it?

Briony: No, I can’t.

Andrew: OK, you probably broke your arm. But don’t worry. You’ll be fine. I’ll tie it up. And keep this ice pack on it.

Kota: Should we call an ambulance?

Andrew: No, that’s not necessary. But she needs to go to the hospital immediately.

Kota: Do you know where the hospital is?

Andrew: Yes, there’s one near here.

After Harry and Briony leave for the hospital, Kota talks to Andrew on the beach.

 

Kota: Thanks so much for helping Briony. Oh, that girl’s name is Briony.

Andrew: No worries! I know who she is. Briony often joins our beach clean-ups.

Andrew: Oh, you did? Are you her boyfriend?

Kota: Uh… no. I’m just her friend. Anyway, lifeguards can do so many things! It’s very impressive.

Briony: I was surfing. I was riding a big wavé. Suddenly I fell into the water. Then my surfboard bumped into my arm really hard. I had trouble swimming. The
lifeguard rescued me.

Doctor: And how does your arm feel now?

Briony: It hurts a lot.

Doctor: I see. OK, I’ll examine your arm. Ah yes, you have a bruise. Come into this room so we can take an X-ray.

 

When Briony was surfing, suddenly she fell into the water. Then her surfboard bumped into her arm really hard.

 

 

At the hospital, the doctor speaks to Briony and her family.

 

Doctor: Take a look at this X-ray. There is a small break in the bone. But luckily, Briony’s injury is not too serious. She has to wear this cast for a while.

Briony: I don’t know when I can surf again.

Doctor: The bone needs to heal. It will take about three to four weeks. Then we can remove the cast. And if your arm is better, you can go surfing.

Briony: That’s so disappointing.

Harry: It’s not too bad. And I think the cast looks cool!
