レッスンのポイント 基本動詞は大変便利ですが、細やかなニュアンスを表すためには基本動詞を超える「レベル2」の動詞がどうしても必要です。

①前置詞句を説明語句に
Here we are at the famous Mouth of Truth!
英語は「配置の言葉」。基本文型、指定ルール、説明ルールが示す位置に、表現を「放り込む」意識で文を作っていきます。この文は前置詞句 at the famous Mouth of Truth を be 動詞の後ろに放り込んでいます。
この説明語句の位置に置けば何でも「主語の説明」となり、「we = at the famous Mouth of Truth」という意味になります。
さまざまな要素をこの位置に放り込むことに慣れておきましょう。

Place your hand into the mouth slowly.
このキーセンテンスで place は動詞ですが、名詞で使われると「場所」。動詞として使われても「正確な場所にちゃんと・慎重に」が色濃く感じられます。単に置いたのではなく何らかの「意図」があり心を配って置いているのです。
この文で put を使うこともできますが、place の方が「真実の口にちゃんと」というニュアンスが感じられます。

「置く」関連の表現には locate （位置づける）もあります。こちらは「位置」に焦点がある単語。
We’re going to locate our new branch right in the city center.

ネイティブスピーカーなら、この文からはただ置くのではなく「お金はこの通り返したわよ」や「払ったんｄからキチンと仕事をしてくださいね」というニュアンスを感じることができる、らしいです。

ゴキブリを捕まえるためのトラップは、場所が重要。目的に沿うようにキチンと置いている – それが have placed のニュアンス。
The police are doing all they can to locate the missing girl.
all they can は関係代名詞節を使った形。the missing girl は「行方不明の少女」。位置を突き止める。
