比較級をほかの表現と組み合わせてよりくわしく説明してみよう
It has many more colors than other paint sets I’ve used.
今まで使っていた絵の具より、ずっと色数が多いです。
「比較級＋than other …」は「ほかの～よりも…」という意味。other のあとには複数形の名詞をおくことに注意しましょう。
paint sets ( which/that ) I’ve used は「今まで使っていた絵の具」と関係詞節で比較する対象を説明しています。このように比較級の than 以下をくわしく言えると、説明が具体的になります。
GRAMMAR POINT
many more と much more
many は比較級の more と一緒になると、「ずっと多くの～」と more を強める働きをします。「少し多くの」の場合は、a few more colors と言います。この場合の color は数えられる名詞で、複数形の -s がつきます。
many more colors than … （～よりずっと多くの色）
一方、直後が「more ＋数えられない名詞」の場合は many ではなく much を使います。
much more money than … （～よりずっと多くのお金）
