レッスンのポイント 今週は形容詞の使い方一般についての留意点を。まずは感情を表す動詞の変化形を形容詞として使うテクニックから。

Mina: Hi, Freddie. What’s up?
Freddie: Nothing much. How about you?
Mina: Well, I just tried to buy the latest bubble tea, but it’s sold out. I’m very disappointed.
Freddie: Hey, never mind. I have something to cheer you up. Look, I got you some sweet potato flavored bubble tea. Here you are.
Mina: How sweet of you! Actually, that’s my favorite flavor. Thanks a lot.
Freddie: You’re welcome. Now, will you go out with me?
Mina: Huh?

I’m very disappointed.
感情を表す動詞の過去分詞形・動詞 -ing 形は頻繁に形容詞として用いられます。ここでは disappoint（ガッカリさせる）の過去分詞形 disappointed が「がっかりして」という形容詞として使われています。
He has been disappointing as a coach.
I was really excited watching that game.
That game was really exciting.
EXPRESS YOURSELF IN ENGLISH! ～英語で表現しましょう～
I was pleasantly surprised to get an A in English.
「うれしい驚き」。この感じを英語で出すには be pleasantly surprised を覚えておきましょう。
It was so satisfying to hear the audience applauding our performance.
satisfy（満足させる）の動詞 -ing形 satisfying は「満足させるような」。
I really enjoyed my homestay, but I’m pleased to be back home.
please （喜ばせる）の過去分詞形 pleased は「喜ばせる→喜んで」。
