Monday

Kota and Nigel arrive at Hoggett High School. It’s Kota’s first day at school.
Nigel: Welcome to Hoggett High School!

Kota: It’s so nice! And it’s really huge!

Nigel: Yeah, our school has six years, from Year 7 to Year 12. We’re in Year 8.

Kota: Oh, my school in Japan only has three years.

Nigel: You sound a little uneasy.

Kota: There are so many students…

Nigel: Take it easy. I’ll introduce you to people. I know everyone!

Kota: Thanks, Nigel.

Nigel: Come on. Let’s go to homeroom!

Tuesday

In Mr. Bennett’s homeroom class. Kota sees a girl nearby.
Kota: Who is that girl? She looks so fashionable!

Nigel: Oh, that’s Sapna.

Sapna: Oh hey, Nigel. Oh wow! You’re Kota! The international student from Japan! I’m Sapna. What’s Japan like? It must be so unbelievable! Is everything high-tech? Are there robots everywhere? What is your favorite manga? Do you have a girlfriend?

Kota: Uh…

Nigel: Um, she likes to talk… a lot!

Wednesday

In Mr. Bennett’s classroom. Kota, Nigel, and Sapna are chatting before class.
Sapna: Did you try any local Aussie foods?

Kota: I tried meat pies. They were good!

Nigel: Look at this picture. How about this?

Kota: What’s that brown food?

Nigel: It’s yeast extract. We eat it on toast and other things. It smells really strong, but it tastes good. We all love it.

Sapna: I don’t!

Kota: That girl… is Briony, isn’t she?
Hi, Briony!
She’s not answering…

Sapna: She’s always listening to music with her headphones.

Thursday

In Mr. Bennett’s homeroom class. Kota is introducing himself to the class.
Kota: I’m from Iwate in northern Japan.

Iwate is a lovely place with a lot of beautiful nature. It snows a lot!

This is wanko soba, a regional Iwate dish.

The staff keeps putting more soba noodles in your bowl. You have to keep eating! It’s a challenge.

You have to try to eat as many as possible. Thank you for listening!
