Charles: Norah, what are you reading?
Norah: An Italian textbook. I’m studying Italian with my mom.
Charles: Sounds nice. How come you and your mother are studying Italian?
Norah: We may go to Italy this summer. We both paint and like to visit museum and churches to see beautiful works of art.
Charles: That’s an interesting hobby.
Norah: But I wonder if I can get enough time off from work.
Charles: That’s true. You always seem to be so busy. Well, I hope you manage to make it to Italy, and that you have a wonderful vacation with your mom.
Norah: Thank you.

How come you and your mother are studying Italian?
How come は「どうして？」。why と同じ意味ですが、how がある分「どういったプロセスを経て」に焦点があります。
I hope you manage to make it to Italy.
I hope … は「～を望む」。manage to … は「何とか～する」。make it は「達成・成功する」というニュアンス。make it to Italy で「イタリアに行くことを達成する」。

この文で助動詞 may（～かもしれない）が動詞句 go to Italy の前に出てきていますが、なぜでしょう。─もちろん「指定の修飾語は前に置く：指定ルール」が働いているのです。may は以降の内容を「かもしれないという話ですよ」とあらかじめ指定している、だから前置きなのです。
私たちが違和感を感じる語順は助動詞だけではありません。否定もそう。
I don’t like cockroaches.
次の例は「話し手の態度」を示す副詞 personally。文全体の態度を指定するため文頭。
Personally, I think Jane’s presentation was first-rate.

助動詞も否定語句も、話し手の態度も、「指定ルール」で語順どおり口から出してみましょう。
I came across a job advertisement that may be just what you’ve been looking for.
文の大切な内容は I came across a job advertisement（求人広告を偶然見つけた）。こちらを述べてから、じっくり job advertisement を説明します。まずは may（かもしれない）と後続を指定。ここ大事。あとは what を使った wh 節と現在完了進行形（ずっと～している）でフィニッシュ。
I don’t appreciate your negative attitude.
not を動詞の前で意識する。「僕は違うよ」とまず言い切ってからその後ろを作っていきます。
As far as I can tell, the new team is bonding really well.
as far as I can tell は「私が言えるかぎり（＝知る限り）においては」ということ。
