That’s because …（それが～の理由なんです）を「実は～」と意訳されていましたので「実は～」の他の表現を勉強します。

定番ですね。いちばん始めに英語で知る「実はね～」は多分これだと思います。日本語で「実は～」という場面ではほとんどこれで足りるかもしれません。
To be honest, I’m pregnant.
自分の意見を正直に言う「実はね、正直に言うと」には、to be honest ですね。
The truth is (that) my husband was cheating on me.
「本当のことを言うと」といったニュアンスでは、the truth is (that 〜)がよく使われます。他にも to tell (you) the truth もよく使われます。
