Bernie: Yes, we’re so close to the ring. By the way, why do the wrestlers throw salt it?
Mariko: To purify it. Sumo used to be a religious ceremony to honor the gods.
Bernie: Interesting. So, what’s the name of this small guy?
Mariko: That’s Hiroto-umi. He’s very popular.

この文のto 不定詞は、定位置を意識すればいろいろな使い方ができます。
to see real sumo(ここで本物の相撲を見る)を want の目的語位置に放り込んだのがこの文。
そしてダイアログの To purify it. という文ですが、正式には次のようになります。
It’s to purify it.
この場合当然のことながらto 不定詞は主語の説明となります。ー 「それは清めるためですよ」。

英語初心者にはなかなか難しい使い方ですね。
これは「範囲限定」の for。「力士にしては小さい」と範囲限定を行っています。「範囲」は「注視・フォーカス」のバリエーション。「力士」を注視・フォーカスしながら「小さいね」と述べているのです。
「現在完了継続用法で使われる期間の for 」も、範囲限定の一例。時間的な範囲ということです。
We’ve been partners for 30 years.
場所的な範囲を述べることもできます。
Turn right at the next corner and then go straight for around 100 meters.
for の範囲がわかるとおなじみのフレーズ be responsible for（責任がある・担当だ）になぜ for が使われるかわかります。「～の範囲で（責任がある）」ということ。
I’m responsible for product designs.
for の「注視・フォーカス」の意識は実にポピュラー。必ず身につけること。
I had pasta for lunch.

for a while は「しばらくの間」。期間限定の for です。quite（かなり）がついて「かなりの長期間」。

「年の割には」と for が範囲限定しています。

liable は「（法的）責任がある」。英語圏で日常生活するには避けて通れない単語です。いろいろな書類で目にするようです。
