Burt: Hi, there. I’ve seen you here before. What’s your name?
Alice: Alice.
Burt: Hi, Alice. My name’s Burt. It’s nice to see you again. Do you come here after work?
Alice: Yes, I work for a pharmaceutical company not too far from here.
Burt: Oh, I think I know that place. It’s a big orange building.
Alice: That’s the one.
Burt: I thought you were a college student.
Alice: Well, actually, I’m a student. On the weekends, I take management classes for my MBA program.
Burt: Oh, excellent.

I am a student.
なぜ a student という語順であり（×）student a とはならないのでしょうか。─それは英語が「指定の意味合いの語句は前に置く：指定ルール」を原則とするからです。a、the、some、any など限定詞は次に来る名詞がどんなものなのかをあらかじめ指定する言葉。a は「ほかにもあるひとつ」、the は「ひとつに決まるような」といった具合です。
次の各例も語順どおり意識しなければなりません。。
He is very tall.
I usually get up around seven.
I bought a red sweater.
GRAMMAR IN ACTION ～文法の実践～
語順どおり、文を紡いでみましょう。語順どおり口から出したかどうかが重要です。
I met a tall, dark, handsome Italian at my tennis club. The guy turned out to be a famous movie star!
最初の文で a tall … Italian が導入されています。その人を中心に次の文を構成するため The の使用は、ほぼ自動で出てきます。 guy が決まっていて the の順番ではなく、the guy の順番であること。この順番をしっかりと意識しましょう。
It is incredibly difficult to get into this university.
常に語順どおり口から出すこと。まず「本当に難しいんだよ」、それから「大学に入るのは、ね」。incredibly（信じ難いほど）が difficult の前に出ているは「レベル指定」だからです。
My mom hardly ever loses her temper.
hardly ever (めったに～ない)はまとめて覚えましょう。loses one’s temper は「カッとなる」ということ。こちらもまとめて覚えましょう。
