Only this one time. But I was supposed to attend a meeting with a very important client. My boss got really angry because I missed the meeting.
Well, why were you so late?
The train was delayed due to some technical problem.
But didn’t you explain that to your boss?
I tried to, but he was so angry he wouldn’t listen. He just told me to go home and get out of his sight.

be supposed to は「～することになっている」。規則・習慣・法律など「決まり事」を述べる際にも使われる便利な表現です。
