Lesson 181 幸多のリクエスト

Kota and the Millers are in the living room.

Angie: Kota, you’re going to go back to Japan next month. That’s hard to believe.

Kota: Yes, I know.

Michelle: One year went by so fast!

Kota: I’ve had so many wonderful experiences here.

Max: Is there anything you’d still like to do?

Kota: Well, I’d like to see a nice view of Sydney.

Michelle: Why don’t you climb the Harbour Bridge? You can see the entire city from there.

Angie: I’ve never climbed the Harbour Bridge! Let’s go tomorrow!

Michelle: I’m rather busy tomorrow. Max, why don’t you take them?

Max: Me? Climb that high? OK….

Lesson 182 さあ、冒険だ!

Kota, Angie, and Max are getting ready to climb to the top of the Harbour Bridge. A guide is helping them.

Guide: Listen carefully to my instructions, everyone. First, we will climb up some stairs. Then, we will reach a walkway along the top arch. We’ll use that in order to get to the top of the bridge. From there, it’s 134 meters to the water level.

Max: That’s quite high!

Guide: Don’t worry! It’s not dangerous. There’s a safety rope. We’ll connect our jumpsuits to the rope.

Kota: How long will the climb take?

Guide: It will take about three hours round-trip.

Kota: Oh, wow!

Guide: Is everyone ready for a fantastic adventure?

Kota & Angie: Yes!

Max: Yes….

Lesson 183 最高の景色

The group that is led by the guide climbs toward the top of the Harbour Bridge.

Angie: It’s a long climb. But we’re getting pretty high up.

Kota: What’s wrong, Max?

Max: I can’t move at all! To tell you the truth… I’m afraid of heights!

Kota: It’s OK! Just hold on to the rope and go one step at a time.

Guide: This walkway takes us to the summit.

* * * *

Guide: Welcome to the top of the Harbour Bridge! It’s one of the tallest steel arch bridges in the world.

Max: I can’t look! My legs are shaking. Can you hold my hand?

Angie: Sure, Dad.

Kota: You can see all of Sydney! Even the Opera House looks small from here!

Angie: Yes, it does!

Lesson 184 ずっと忘れないよ

Kota, Angie, and Max are back home after climbing the Harbour Bridge.

Michelle: So, how was the bridge climb?

Angie: It was incredible!

Kota: Yeah!

Angie: But poor Dad! He was so terrified. He couldn’t even look down.

Max: Yeah, but Kota and Angie helped me.

Kota: And the 360-degree panoramic view of Sydney was spectacular. I’ll remember it forever!

Max: You were so brave, Kota. With that bravery, you’ll do great in the surfing competition!

Kota: Actually, walking back down was a little scary for me, too.

Angie: Yeah. I felt a little dizzy when I looked down.

Kota: I’m so glad I went. Climbing the bridge was fantastic!

Michelle: Well, you must be exhausted. Have a seat, and show me your photos!
