Lesson 151 うちに来ない?
Nigel: Hey, Kota. What are you doing?
Kota: I have just finished my workout.
Nigel: Wow, you’re really serious about training.
Kota: Yeah. What’s up?
Nigel: We’re having a backyard barbecue on Christmas Eve at my house. If you’re free, please come!
Kota: Wow, a barbecue on Christmas Eve!
Nigel: It’s pretty common here.
Kota: I’ll have to get permission from Max and Michelle. But it sounds awesome! Thanks for the invitation.
Nigel: Oh, and bring a swimsuit.
Kota: What for?
Nigel: It’s a pool party!

Lesson 152 きっと楽しいね
Kota: Thanks, Michelle.
Michelle: But don’t forget, we’re having dinner together on Christmas Day.
Kota: Yes, I remember. Oh, I’m going to exchange presents with my friends.
Angie: Have you gotten their presents yet?
Kota: No. I haven’t gotten them yet. I don’t know what to get.
Michelle: How about giving them something Japanese?
Angie: Or you can write something in Japanese for them.
Kota: Hmm…. Maybe I can do both!

Lesson 153 真夏のクリスマス
Kota: Yeah! It’s my first time having Christmas in summer. I never imagined a Christmas barbecue pool party!
Nigel: I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Where’s Briony?
Sapna: She’s still in the pool. She has been swimming for one hour!
Nigel: Here, try this Christmas ham, Kota.
Kota: Mmm! It’s a little sweet.
Nigel: Yeah, it has a honey glaze.
Sapna: And have one of these barbecued prawns.
Kota: Oh, it’s so delicious. It’s tender but firm.
Sapna: It’s not an Aussie Christmas barbecue without prawns!

Lesson 154 みんなにプレゼント
Sapna: Oh, wow! Those are pretty big! Have you been carrying them all day?
Kota: Yes, I have. They were in my bag. Here you are.
Sapna: Thanks, Kota! What are they?
Nigel: They must be a kind of portable fan.
Kota: That’s right, Nigel. They are called uchiwa. They are traditional Japanese fans. They’re often made of paper and bamboo. They’re very refreshing on hot days.
Briony: And there’s Japanese writing on them.
Kota: Yes, I wrote your names in Japanese.
Sapna: That’s so cool. We’ll treasure these!
