Monday
Kota: I overslept! I tried surfing yesterday. I was really tired.
Sapna: Oh yeah, I heard. How was it?
Kota: It was tough. I couldn’t do it.
Sapna: Oh, it must be hard at first. Will you go again?
Kota: If Harry invites me again, I will go.
Sapna: Harry and Briony?
Kota: Uh, yeah… What?
Sapna: Nothing. Oh, shh! Here comes Mr. Bennett.
Retelling
Tuesday
Nigel: A didgeridoo.
Mr. Bennett: That’s right. The didgeridoo is important to the Aboriginal people.
Kota: The Aboriginal people?
Mr. Bennett: Yes. They are the native people of Australia. The didgeridoo is a musical instrument. When you blow into it, it makes an interesting sound.
Kota: Cool!
Mr. Bennett: Thank you very much.

Wednesday
Kota: I can see a lot of dots… and an animal.
Briony: Yeah, it’s a kangaroo.
Mr. Bennett: That’s right. Who wants to try playing it?
Nigel: Me! Me!
Kota: …Me.
Mr. Bennett: Both Nigel and Kota are raising their hands…. OK, Kota, you can go first.
Kota: OK. Oops!
Mr. Bennett: That’s OK! We’ll learn a lot about Aboriginal culture during our field trip!
Retelling
Thursday
Nigel: You should try again even if it’s difficult.
Kota: That’s true…. I’m interested in Aboriginal culture.
Nigel: Many place names in Australia come from Aboriginal languages.
Kota: Oh?
Nigel: For example, Bondi Beach. Bondi is an Aboriginal word. It means the sound of waves when they hit the shore.
Kota: That’s fascinating. You know so much, Nigel.
