Mayor: So, Mr. Aoki, were you able to come up with any ideas for regional development? I’d like to improve our town’s economy.
Mr. Aoki: I am confident I can do that. However, I need a bit more time. I want to see what this town is like in the winter.
Mayor: There’s nothing. The town ran a big hotel, but after the ski boom ended, we had to close it down.
Mr. Aoki: But you still have other hotels, right?
Mayor: Yes, but they’re very small. Mr. Aoki, I’d like to give my people something to dream about.
Mr. Aoki: Don’t give your people dreams. Give them goals, goals they can achieve.

GRAMMAR POINT 「give + 人 + もの」
give は「～に ＋ ･･･を」の順に目的語を二つ続けて取ることができる動詞の代表的なものです。このパターンをとるのは、人にものや情報を与えたり（give、show、send、teach など）、何かしてあげたり（choose、cook、make、sing など）する意味の動詞が中心です。
よく使う動詞は例文で覚えておきましょう。いざというときに応用できます。
