Lesson 216 同情する

ピアノの演奏会のミスで、ガッカリしているエイミーに父親が言葉をかけています。

Amy: Dad, I’m so embarrassed. I made so many mistakes tonight.

Dad: Nobody noticed, Amy. Did you hear the warm applause you got at the end.

Amy: They were just being polite. I could have played much better.

Dad: I understand how you feel, but it’s over. Now try to put it behind you, OK?

Amy: OK, but it’ll take a while.

Dad: Hey, how about we go to Murphy’s Ice Cream Parlor?

Amy: Wow, that would be great!

Dad: You’ve earned it, princess.

Lesson 217 相手をリラックスさせる

インターネットで趣味の手作り人形を売り始めたアレクシス。厳しいコメントをもらったようです。

Alexis: I can’t believe this. I only got a one-star rating on my web page.

Caspar: How come? I thought everyone loved your handmade dolls.

Alexis: I wrote the wrong address on a customer’s package, and it didn’t arrive on time.

Caspar: Is that all?

Alexis: Yes, the woman wrote a comment saying my customer service is bad. Now people won’t trust me.

Caspar: Don’t be too hard on yourself. Everyone makes mistakes.

Alexis: Thanks, Caspar. I’ll be more careful from now on.

Yayoi: I’m sure she will. There’s no product like it on the market yet. You did an awesome job. Congratulations!

Nagisa: Oh, so you only call when you need something, huh?

Steve: No!

Nagisa: Ha-ha! I’m just pulling your leg. How can I help?
